Swabi District lies between the Indus River and Kabul River, in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) of Pakistan. Its residents are referred to as Swabiwaals. Swabi is the fourth most populated district of the NWFP. The Yousafzai clan of Pukhtoons are the district’s predominant clan.Many famous and Histrical places are in District Swabi just like Ghulam Isa Khan Insistue, Tarbella Dam, National Kund Park,Well known Educational Insistues, Hospitals,Banks, many private Schools and Colleges. there are many big Villages and Towns, The Towns are from District Nowshera Side,on the main road, Jehangira, Tordher (the biggest Town of District Swabi) in other words called Tor Dheri Baba the town contains on many small villages, The Central Market of Vegetables. Manki, Lahor (Big town and tehsil of District Swabi. There is Degree College and many Government and private schools and the centre of District Swabi.Mostly Pepole of Swabi are very educated, brave, faithful, hard working, Honest, kind, cooperative, working in all over Pakistan in different Departments and all over the world on key posts.
Overview:
The late historian {[Hussain Ahmad of Maini (Swabi)}] from this region wrote about the history of this tribe in his book History of the Yousafzai Tribe.
People from the district include Nawab Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum, founder of Islamia College, Peshawar and the veteran of the Kargil war, Captain Karnal Sher Khan recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military award of Pakistan. Hafiz rehmath Khan Of Rohilkand Badsh was from Swabi.
Tobacco is a “cash crop” of Swabi along with vegetables, wheat, sugar cane and maize. Its climate is well suited for citrus in particular while many other fruits like watermelon, peaches and apricots are also grown there.
It also boasts one of the most prestigious institutions of Pakistan, the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology located in village Topi.
A six lane motorway connecting Islamabad with Peshawar passes through Swabi District with an access interchange at Ambaar.
Batakara is another important area of Swabi. Batakara is beautiful side of swabi. The people are very loving. There have Indus river, Mountains, desert, plain and jungle (bela). Batakara looking very beautiful as like Kalam and swat. Batakara cricket team on the top at district and provisional level. Mr Imad Hussain is the captain of cricket team. Batakara boundries with ghazi, Topi, Zarobi, khota and with pontia. Batakara Popular from his hospilites in all over country and the world.
Archaeological Sites:
Swabi contains many important archaeological sites; it was part of the Gandhara civilization. Alexander the Great crossed river Indus where the village of Hund now lies on its right bank. Hund is an archaeological treasure and been the capital of the Hindu and Turk Shahi for nearly three hundred years. Archaeological sites are found all over the Swabi and they are great tourist attractions.
Batakara Builded on the side of Indus river.which show a great strategic place bcz one side is Tarbella dam and other side is Ghazi barutha. Batakara is another old village of swabi. Before partition there are many Hindu families. In Batakara at now one river side knows as Hindu chara. Here The Hindu families comes on this side of the river. There are a large amount of hidden sides in mountains in which People stories are popular that there are Treasuries (khazana). Mr Laiq started to search these Treasuries but due to financial lack he left. But there is large chances to find out.
Rani Ghat is another start of the Gandhara archaeological site located further deep in the mountainous area. Rani Ghat is the famous historical palace on the top of mountain used by the Queen of that era. She was famous for buying the fresh air coming from Swabi side. She paid the villagers for clean air—they were not allowed to pollute it by blowing the crops in the air for cleaning purpose. The ruins are still a famous place for visitors. As a part of the origin of Buddhist Gandhara civilisation it has also attracted re-construction funds from Japanese research institutes. With the help of Japanese funds the local NGO Shewa Educated Social Workers Association (SESWA) built a walkway to the historical sites and built fences to protect the area. It also built a mountain resthouse on Baga mountain which is a popular tourist site. This area attracted many tourists including Japanese, who came here for studies in the ancient times to learn about Buddhism.
Similarly the ruins of Darsan are located here.
Molana Abdul Qadir was a great scholar resident of the village of Pabaini. He was the founder of Pushto Academy and Pushto department. The first Pushto dictionary was written by him.
Today almost the whole population is Pakhtun of the Yousafzai tribe, however even today Hindus and Sikhs live in some areas of Swabi.
Batakara is the most beautiful village of Swabi. Batakara borders with Zarobi, Topi, Puntia, and District Hripur (Ghazi). Batakara is famous for its Abbaseen river (Indus river). Abbaseen river fishes are very delicious. Most of people in UAE and Saudi Arabia. Cricket and Makha are favorite games. Makha played in April and may months. In this season wheat crops cutting. In cricket level Batakara Cricket Team win many Tournaments in district level and province level. Imad Hussain is captain of Batakara cricket team. Right hand batsman and medium bowler.
Thand Koiis the village of Swabi and it is home to the Manora. Thand Koi also has a resthouse on Mountain and another one on Pang Peer Mountain near olive gardens. Both these spots are famous tourist spots. Thand Koi has more than 10 schools which is one of the highest for any village of its size in the whole of Pakistan.
The Islamic scholars of this village include [Hafiz Ghulam Rasool the teacher of these islamic scholar ], mufti Gulzar Khan Babakhel, Maulana bin Amin, [Ha Maulana Shamsul Nawaz, Maulana Hussain Ahmed.
The most populated village in Swabi is Yar Hussain, a village in Tehsil Lahor. Archaeologically, Lahor was the original Lahor and the Lahore city of Panjab was raised after this one. Hund was called Hind and Lahor was the capital of Hind.
The museum of Peshawar is decorated with the historical utensils and ornaments of Lahor. The poets of Pashtu Mir Nawas Khan, Bakhshir, Norbaz Haji, belonged to this locality.
An historical place in Swabi District is Haryan, named after the Arians civilisation. Haryan is located 3 km from the main Swabi-Jahangira road from Lahore Tehsil and on the bank of river Indus.
Beka village is at the edge of River Indus. Historically Village Beka was replace by river Indus. It was the famous village during Akbar (emperor). Akbar sent his soldiers to live in this area but it was flooded by river Indus and people evacuated to the other side of the river and settled there.
In Beka village, Yusuf Zai clan, Khattak clan, Shahib Zadgan (Bacha Sahib) and Blar Khel reside. Literacy rate is high compared to other villages. Haji Mohabat Khan late was a social welfare activist. He aimed to bring literacy in females as equal to man. Haji Mohbat khan devoted his life for the welfare of people. He donated his land for girls Primary school, Girls High school and also for grave yard and hospital. Bacha Sahib’s family served for a long time. Their ancestors were scholars from Bukhara (Central Asia). They were renowed for their work in Tib (Health and medicines). Every year people come from far away places and even from abroad to celeberate uras (celebration). Swabi has a green valley called Gadoon. Gadoon shares its boundaries with Haripur and Bunir.
One of the villages in Swabi is Kernel Sher Khan Kalay (Previously called Nawan Kalay from ancient times). The village was renamed after Kernel Sher Khan who died in the Kargil War. Sher Khan is the only Pukhtoon to have received the highest military award in Pakistan, the Nishan-e-Haider. His tomb lies close to the Mardan Swabi highway near Shewa Adda. This is one of the beautiful villages of the whole district and is the birth place of historian Roshan Khan Baba.
Next to Kernel Sher Khan Kalay is the village Shewa. Shewa is home to the tomb of Yousuf Khan and Sher Bano. Shewa also has a resthouse on Baga Mountain and another one on Karmar Mountain near olive gardens. Both these spots are famous tourist spots. Shewa has some of the best Mukha players in whole of Swabi district. Shewa has more than 12 schools which is one of the highest for any village of its size in the whole of Pakistan.
Another important village is Marghuz. Marghuz has a very fertile land both at agriculture level and human resource level. Many great people belong to this village like Ghulam Haider(jarnale)in “Khudai Khidmat Gar Tehrek”, also the Mother of great pukhtoon leader Bacha Khan belong to this village. Similarly the Fore fathers of great Pakistan independence movement leaders Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar and Maulana Shoukat Ali Johar belong to thisVillage.LIke this the Mother of Great Pakistani crickter and leg spinner Abdul Qadar belong to this Village. Recent Times Dr Shafique Ahmed the well known Gaenocologist and member of Royal Medical team For Queen of UK belong to this Village. Also Dr Ashfaq Ahmed and Dr Nighat Yasmeen Husband and wife the First Coulple in Asia to be designated as the principal of the same Medical College i.e Khyber Medical collage Peshawar now University belong to this village(Husband and wife to be designated to this post one after another). Like this Major general Anwer Sher (pak Army) a Key figure in Afghan war belong to this village.
Kaddi is another small village in Swabi District located at 34°04’36″N, 78°29’04″E to the south of village Panj Pir and is bounded on its west by a nullah Badrai and a few small hills. The inhabitants belong to Aba Khel subtribe of Mandanr Yusafzai Pathans with major khel including Balar Khel, Taju Khel, Zakarya Khel and Panj Pao. The present population of Kaddi is likely to have settled here in the early 18th century as a spill over from the nearby town Zaida with which they still maintain close economic links.
Tourism
Swabi is famous for Yusuf Khan and Sherbano, a famous folk Pashtun love story. Visitors come to the village of Shera Ghund and climb the mountain located in the town of Kalu Khan at the Mountain Karamar to visit the tomb of Yousaf Khan. Gadoon Amazai is one of the most popular places for tourists, especially the village of Mangal Chai.
Kund park, which lies on the banks of the rivers Indus and Kabal,is located in town Tordher. Tordher is the second leading trading city after Swabi in the district.It has a population of nearly 50,000 people. There are 18 primary schools and three high schools. Another tourist area is Ghazi-Bharota Dam, which is near Topi and Tarbela Dam. Mahaban Hill in Gadoon has a scenic beauty, like Swat and other hilly areas. Pir Galai resort is here, 6,000 feet (1,800 m) above sea level. From here one can see Mansehra, Buner and Kaghan hills.
Gadoon Amazai
Gadoon Amazai is one of the biggest Industrial estate of the North-West Frontier Province. Once there were 580 industries and mills. Batakara People are famous for their hospitality. When once time a person come there.Then he did not want to leave.Batakara people very lovefull. There are mountains, fields, desert, and river. Batakara looking place.
Maneri is the most popular villages of Swabi. It is a big village with a huge population. Most of the people are in Gulf and Europe. It has one of the highest literacy rate of the district.
Demography
Today almost the whole population is Pakhtun of the Yusufzai tribe, there are also Utmanzai and Tanoli present in district, however even today Hindus and Sikhs live in some areas of Swabi.

Games and sports
Two types of games are played in Swab. Local and ancient games include Maily, Makha, Kabaddi, Cock Fighting, Dog Fighting, Horse Racing, Asses, Akor, Gulu Dandai, Bilorai and Pat Patonay, koda etc.
The popular modern games being played are cricket and football. A famous player in cricket, Ibrahim Shah, belongs to Village Kunda. In football, Maneri is the defending champion of all district swabi football championship. They got wonderful players which are capable to represent the national team of Pakistan. Swabi is considered as one of the best volleyball nurseries in the country. Many of the national team players are from this district such as former National Volleyball Team Captain Raheem, belongs to village Zaida.
Makha, a type of archery, is the traditional game of Swabi, in which different villages take part. In this game a long bow and an arrow made from bamboo stick are used. Instead of a tip, the arrow has a saucer shaped distal end called Tubray. The Makha game has a famous rivalry between the two villages Mangal Chai and Channi of the Gadoon.
Kabbadi is one of the most famous sports of the area.
Koda is one of the game which is played through small round shaoe stones one of the hot favorite game of swabiwal in ancient times still it is played in Maneri Bala and Payan. During the game there is a lot of crowd n pushto traditional music dulkay is played during tournaments.
People of Swabi have a great love for Sports. With addition to local sports, Swabi people also made their name on National and International basis. The local sports represent the culture of Swabi, However, Cricket, Valley ball, and football are the national games which are played in Swabi. The world famous googly bowler Abdual Qadir Khan belongs to Swabi. He has proven records in his career. Moheen khan is also related to the international world cricket. He was wicket keeper and was considering a good all-rounder. The young generation with a lot of energy and enthusiasm, Zohaib Ali Tariq and Ahmad Ali Tariq played from Abbottabad Club and subsequently played in different counties abroad. The two IT graduated brothers used their IT techniques and cricket skills to discovered efficient techniques for twenty twenty. Zohaib is left hand fast bowler played in Australia. He did not play on International basis but always on the top list. He quit cricket and concentrated to his IT business. He made different software to UK counties to improve the skills and techniques in the world of twenty twenty. Most of the Software’s are copy righted under the different licence and agreement.
Streams and rivers
Swabi is home of dozens of streams and two great rivers, the Indus and the Kabul. Both the rivers meet at a place called Kund, a major tourist attraction. The Indus river with its spectacular blue colour and the Kabul river’s muddy brown waters go side by side without blending. Also there are several small streams in different locations of Swabi. A unique stream is in village Maini. The water of the stream comes out in the centre of the village. Its water is used for irrigation in the village. This stream is called china in local language which means spring. The three villages namely Kotha, Topi and Maini are collectively called Utman. They all have natural springs called china in Maini, chino in Kotha and bayin in Topi.

The most important of them are, Yarhussain, Dagi, Dandoka, Topi, Marghuz, Zaida, kunda, Qillabat, Zarobi, Terbela, Ismaila, Adeena, Kalukhan, Kernal SherKhan killi, Maneri, Swabi, Chota Lahore, Sudher, Yaqoobi, Turlandi,Tarakay, Naranji, Parmooli, Menai, Tandkhoi, Gadoon(including a number of villages), Amazai, Jehangira, Tordher, Dobiaan, Anbaar, Panjpir, Baja, Baamkhel, Jalbai, Jalsai, Chaknooda, Sheikhjana, etc.
